  • Welcome Michelle Mercado to the Kaner Group

    We are excited to welcome Michelle Mercado, a rising fourth-year Chemical Engineering major at UC Irvine, to the Kaner group! She joins us for her second summer through the UC LEADS program, participating in an eight-week research experience with Sophia Uemura and Dr. Mackenzie Anderson. Outside the lab, Michelle enjoys learning piano, crocheting, caring for her growing houseplant collection, and spending time with her two cats, Joy and Coco.

  • Cheng-Wei Presents at CNSI Nanoscience Teacher Training Workshop



    Cheng-Wei was a guest speaker at the California NanoSystems Institute’s Nanoscience Teacher Training Workshop, sharing insights and expertise with educators to support the advancement of nanoscience education.

  • Kaner Group Visits Gahr High School for Outreach

    Ric Kaner, Cheng-Wei, Zhiyin (Tara) Yang, Michelle Xie, and Joo Wan Kim visited Gahr High School in Cerritos for an outreach event, sharing their passion for chemistry and materials science with students and inspiring the next generation of scientists.

  • Ric gave a fun public lecture in Exploring Your Universe 2022!

    On Nov. 6 2022, UCLA held its annual science fair event, Exploring Your Universe, with a record-breaking 12,000 attendees.

    Ric Kaner gave a talk titled “Fun with Plastics!” with polymers with a lot of fun experiments.

    And group member, Sophia Uemura, was on the organizing team for the event.
